No fewer than 8,433 delegates are expected to attend the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled to hold on 27–28 March 2026 at Eagle Square.
The delegates will be led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside 31 state governors and members of the Federal Executive Council.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a media briefing held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, where preparations and expectations for the convention were outlined.
Idris, who serves as Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Committee, said arrangements had been finalised to ensure a successful event, urging members of the committee to work collaboratively.
“A lot of sacrifice is expected from all, in line with the party’s vision for a united and disciplined approach to communicating to Nigerians,” he said.
He emphasised the need for the party to uphold internal democratic values.
“As party members, we must reflect a significant attribute of our president,” Idris added.
The minister described the convention as a critical milestone for the ruling party as it seeks to consolidate its internal structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC has already indicated that it will adopt a consensus approach in selecting national leaders during the convention.
This was corroborated by the party’s Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity, Mary Ikoku, who said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily that decisions on elective positions during primaries would be determined based on prevailing political dynamics.
The meeting was attended by governors and members of the party’s 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee, including key stakeholders.
Other notable attendees included the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; the Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga; and Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation, Sunday Dare.
The convention will see party members elect new national executives tasked with steering the APC’s affairs and organising primaries for the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state assembly elections ahead of 2027.
