The Federal High Court, Abuja has found the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, guilty on count 1 of the terrorism charges.

Delivering the ruling on Wednesday, Justice James Omotosho held that Kanu committed an act of terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria by issuing threats during a live broadcast in which he warned that people would die and the world would be brought to a standstill.

According to the judge, “Mr Kanu knew what he was doing, he was bent on carrying out these threats without consideration to his own people.”

Justice Omotosho further noted that evidence before the court was not challenged, adding: “From the incontroverted evidence it is clear that the defendant carried out preparatory act of terrorism.
“He had the duty to explain himself but failed to do so.”
