JTF Warns Of Possible Boko Haram, ISWAP Attacks During Eid

The Joint Task Force (JTF) has warned the public to remain on high security alert over possible attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during the Eid El Kabir celebrations.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI.

According to the statement, intelligence reports indicate that terrorists may attempt isolated attacks targeting civilians during the festive period.

The JTF said the attacks could involve the use of suicide bombers and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), particularly in crowded public areas.

The warning comes as Muslim faithful prepare to celebrate the 2026 Eid El Kabir festival on Wednesday.

Operation HADIN KAI, however, assured residents that troops and surveillance assets have been deployed to critical and vulnerable locations across the North-East ahead of the celebrations.

“Patrols have been intensified, and security forces are operating in close coordination with sister agencies, the CJTF, and community vigilance groups to forestall any threat and guarantee a secure festive period for all residents,” the statement said.

The task force strongly advised members of the public to celebrate close to their homes and avoid large gatherings where possible.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant in crowded places such as markets, motor parks, banking halls, and prayer grounds.

The command advised citizens to report suspicious persons, unattended objects, or unusual movements to the nearest security formation immediately.

It also called on residents to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening operations, avoid unnecessary movement at night, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

The Theatre Command further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders to support security efforts by encouraging residents to provide credible information.

“Your cooperation with security forces remains invaluable to the success of ongoing operations,” the statement added.

Operation HADIN KAI reassured residents of the North-East that troops remain fully prepared to prevent terrorists from disrupting the Eid celebrations.

“The Command remains resolute in its determination to deny terrorists any freedom of action and ensure that the Eid El Kabir celebrations proceed in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and dignity for all,” the statement said.
