The United Kingdom Government has appointed Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria.
Seymour succeeds Gill Lever OBE, who completed her diplomatic posting in June 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the UK Government announced that Seymour has assumed her duties in Abuja, where she will help strengthen the UK’s partnership with Nigeria across key areas including economic growth, security, migration, development, international cooperation and people-to-people ties.
The statement noted that Seymour brings more than 20 years of experience in diplomacy, international development and public service.
Prior to her appointment, she served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), a position she held from 2023.
She previously led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and also served as Development Director in Mozambique.
Throughout her career, Seymour has held senior leadership roles across Africa, including postings in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as in Afghanistan. Her experience also spans climate policy, security and economic development.
Before joining the UK civil service, Seymour worked in the not-for-profit sector, focusing on migration.
Her appointment comes as the UK continues to deepen diplomatic, economic and development cooperation with Nigeria across a broad range of shared priorities.
