The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that January 15, previously observed as Armed Forces Remembrance Day, will now be officially called Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
The change aims to reflect the dual purpose of the occasion: celebrating serving and retired personnel while remembering fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
A senior military official, Major General Uba, explained that the observance continues to honour the dedication of officers and men currently serving across the country. He said the annual commemoration is preceded by a week-long programme of activities, culminating in a grand parade and wreath-laying ceremony on January 15.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria respectfully urges the media to adopt the term ‘Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day’ in all future reports and coverage,” Major General Uba stated.
He also expressed appreciation to the media for its consistent support in the fight against insecurity and optimism for strengthened collaboration in the future.
