Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid a visit to former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi at his Abuja residence in what is being interpreted as a reconciliation effort within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The meeting followed the recently concluded ADC presidential primary, which produced Atiku as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.
Amaechi, who contested the primary, had earlier rejected the outcome, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the exercise and describing the process as flawed.
However, Atiku has since maintained that the outcome of the primary should not be seen as a division among rivals, stressing that the exercise was not a “winner-takes-all” contest but a democratic process aimed at strengthening the party.
Political sources say the visit is part of wider efforts to ease internal tensions, reconcile aggrieved aspirants, and consolidate unity within the opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development is also viewed as a key test of the ADC’s ability to manage post-primary disputes and maintain cohesion as it positions itself to challenge the ruling party in the next general election.
