The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed that its presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly primaries will proceed nationwide on May 29, 2026, despite minor adjustments to its earlier timetable.
In a statement jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, and National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Enekweizu, the party explained that while the original schedule of May 28 and 29 remains valid, logistical challenges linked to the Eid-el-Kabir holidays had disrupted movement across the country.
According to the party, limited flight availability and transportation constraints left several aspirants and members of screening committees stranded in Abuja after earlier screening activities.
The NDC said May 28 will now be dedicated to arrivals, documentation with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, as well as consultations with stakeholders, party elders and aspirants.
It added that various party teams would also hold meetings in different states ahead of the primaries, strictly in line with approved guidelines.
The party further stressed that security agencies, including the police, DSS and INEC, are not expected to participate in any of the meetings or preparatory activities scheduled for May 28, warning that any unauthorised engagement would be considered invalid.
The statement outlined that the May 29 primaries would include presidential, National Assembly, state assembly and governorship contests, with results collated centrally by designated teams.
The party leadership said all outcomes would be forwarded to the National Working Committee (NWC) for official announcement, noting that no state-level structure is authorised to declare results independently.
The NDC also reiterated its commitment to peaceful conduct during the exercise, warning against violence, disorder and any form of electoral malpractice during the primaries.
