The Sokoto State Zakat and Waqf Endowment Agency has been recognised as one of the leading institutions providing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services to women and children in Sokoto State.
The recognition came during a one-day stakeholders’ meeting organised in collaboration with humanitarian and protection partners to review and update referral pathways and protocols on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), protection, gender, and sexual and reproductive health services.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, May 21, 2026, at Sokoto Guest Inn, brought together government agencies, humanitarian organisations, and service providers working in the areas of protection, psychosocial support, women empowerment, and child welfare.
Speaking during the engagement, the Head of the International Relations Unit of SOZEA highlighted the agency’s humanitarian interventions and social support programmes across the state.
According to the representative, the agency has continued to provide services including economic empowerment initiatives, relief support for vulnerable persons, psychosocial support, mental healthcare interventions, livelihood assistance, and support for survivors of violence and abuse.
Participants at the meeting also reviewed existing referral pathways and coordination mechanisms aimed at improving collaboration among organisations responding to issues affecting women and children, particularly survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
Stakeholders emphasised the importance of improved coordination, timely referrals, and strengthened psychosocial services to enhance protection and support for vulnerable groups across Sokoto State.
The recognition further highlights SOZEA’s growing role in humanitarian service delivery and community-based interventions targeted at improving the wellbeing of women, children, and vulnerable populations in the state.
