The Kano State Police Command has intercepted a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect in Takai Local Government Area following a swift intelligence-led operation.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command received a distress call through its emergency line on May 12, 2026, reporting that a silver Pontiac Vibe with registration number KMC 928 LK had been stolen in Kaduna State and was heading towards Kano.

Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and in line with the intelligence-led policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, divisional police officers in border local government areas were immediately mobilised to intercept the vehicle.

The statement said the Divisional Police Officer in Takai Division mounted a strategic roadblock along the highway, leading to the interception of the vehicle.

The suspect, identified as Christian Ikwumesi, a 38-year-old resident of Benin, Edo State, was arrested while driving the vehicle. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen from Kaduna State.

Police authorities disclosed that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kano for further investigation aimed at uncovering the wider criminal network connected to the theft.

The Command also confirmed that the recovered Pontiac Vibe has been verified and handed over to its rightful owner, who reportedly commended the police for the swift recovery operation.

CP Bakori praised officers of the Takai Division for their prompt response and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to inter-state security collaboration and rapid response to distress calls.

He also urged residents to continue using the Command’s emergency lines to report suspicious movements and criminal activities.

“The Kano State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property, prevent cross-border crimes, and ensure that criminals find no safe haven within the state,” the statement added.

For emergencies, residents can contact the Command through the following lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
