Stakeholders from across Nigeria’s North Central region gathered in Lafia, Nasarawa State, for the 2025 North Central Peace and Security Summit, aimed at fostering lasting peace, unity, and stability in the region.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Strategic Communication, Nasarawa State Government House, the two-day summit, themed “Towards Enduring Peace and Harmony in the North Central,” held at the Ta’al Conference Hotel, was powered by the Cheren Peace Foundation in collaboration with the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), NTA, and Radio Nigeria. The event drew over 350 delegates from the six states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Nasarawa State Governor and Chairman of the North Central Governors Forum, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, FNSE, who served as Chief Host, joined other leaders, traditional rulers, and security experts to deliberate on practical peacebuilding and development measures.
In his address, Governor Sule called for stronger synergy among stakeholders and advocated for long-term, sustainable strategies to tackle insecurity rather than short-term or reactionary measures. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and economic growth, stressing that development can only thrive in an atmosphere of stability.
The summit, convened by Bishop Timothy Cheren, also sought to engage agitators and aggrieved groups in constructive dialogue to promote reconciliation and enduring harmony across the North Central zone.
