The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be held from June 19 to July 17, although it has yet to decide which of the three host nations—Uganda, Kenya, or Tanzania—will stage the opening match or the final.
The dates were approved by the FIFA Council during a meeting in Vancouver, Canada, easing earlier concerns over the readiness of the co-hosting countries.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe reaffirmed the body’s commitment to staging the tournament in East Africa, dismissing suggestions that it could be postponed to 2028.
“We have worked hard to ensure that the AFCON is held in East Africa, and our commitment remains unwavering. I am confident that we will organise a very successful AFCON in these three countries,” he said.
The 2027 edition will be historic as the first Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted jointly by three countries.
It will also mark the tournament’s return to the East African region for the first time since the 1976 edition held in Ethiopia.
