The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on Nigerians to use the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations as a moment for national renewal, urging unity and shared responsibility in addressing the country’s economic and security challenges.
In a message released on Friday, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, extended goodwill to the Muslim Ummah, describing the end of Ramadan as a period marked by deep spiritual reflection and personal growth.
He noted that the virtues emphasised during the fasting period, including kindness, sacrifice, and compassion for the less privileged, should serve as a guide for strengthening national cohesion.
“At a time like this, our nation needs unity more than ever. From insecurity to economic hardship, the challenges before us are real, but so too is our shared strength,” the statement read.
Okoh highlighted Nigeria’s diversity as a source of strength, urging citizens to embrace differences in religion, ethnicity, and culture rather than allow them to fuel division.
He stressed that the country can only thrive when its people remain united around common goals and a shared vision for the future.
“Not divided by faith or ethnicity, but united by a common purpose and a shared future,” he said.
The CAN president further encouraged Nigerians to shun actions that promote discord, calling instead for dialogue, mutual understanding, and efforts that strengthen social harmony.
He also described Eid-el-Fitr as an opportunity to reflect and reset national priorities, particularly in the pursuit of peace and development.
“The association joined Muslim counterparts in praying for divine intervention, specifically seeking lasting peace, improved security across all regions, and rapid economic recovery to ease citizens’ burdens.”
Okoh added that CAN’s prayers also focus on wisdom, compassion, and ethical leadership, stressing the importance of responsible governance at a critical time for the country.
“Let this Eid be more than a celebration; let it be a reset for our national conscience. I pray for joy, health, and peace for all Nigerian families,” he said.
