Troops of the Joint Task Force Faruruwa have rescued a kidnap victim during a coordinated security operation along the Kano–Katsina border.
The operation was launched in the early hours of Sunday following actionable intelligence indicating the movement of armed bandits from Daurawa in Kira Local Government Area of Katsina State towards the Kano axis.
Acting on the tip-off, troops deployed from the Forward Operating Base, Yankwada, intercepted the suspects around Ungwan Dogo and Ungwan Tudu, where a gun battle ensued.
The bandits were forced to retreat towards Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State after being overwhelmed by the troops.
During the encounter, the troops successfully rescued a kidnap victim identified as Rabiu Halilu, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was immediately evacuated to the Joint Task Force Faruruwa Medical Centre, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The troops also recovered two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing bandits, along with an undisclosed number of cattle.
The Joint Task Force said its personnel remain on high alert, as security operations continue to secure the area and prevent further criminal activities along the border corridor.
