The Sokoto State Police Command has launched “Operation Peaceful Celebration 2025”, a comprehensive security initiative aimed at ensuring a safe and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration across the state.
The operation, approved under the strategic leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, psc, involves the massive deployment of personnel and detailed security strategies to protect lives and property throughout the festive season.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police expressed deep appreciation to Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and the people of the state for their continued cooperation and support, describing public partnership as central to the successes recorded in maintaining law and order in 2025.
According to the Command, the operation will focus on fortified security at churches, carol service venues, crossover night locations and other major event centres, with officers directed to collaborate with event organisers and private security personnel to ensure orderly entry, screening and crowd control.
The Police also announced intensified 24-hour patrols and surveillance across urban centres, highways, rural communities and border areas. These patrols will combine intelligence-led motorised patrols, foot patrols and anti-crime surveillance teams to deter criminal activity and ensure rapid response to incidents.
To address increased vehicular movement during the festivities, the Command has deployed special traffic management teams to major intersections, event locations and known congestion points to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent gridlock.
The operation further includes expanded intelligence gathering through strengthened engagement with community stakeholders, traditional institutions, sister security agencies and the general public. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency channels.
The Police Command issued a stern warning against illegal car racing and stunt driving, particularly around identified hotspots such as Bafarawa Flyover and Arkilla (behind the Polytechnic), noting that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.
In addition, the use of fireworks and firecrackers has been strictly prohibited across the state due to heightened fire risks associated with the dry season. Parents and guardians were warned to ensure their wards comply with the directive to prevent injuries, fires and loss of property.
The Command also advised residents to remain security-conscious, avoid late-night solitary movements, secure their homes properly, park vehicles in designated areas and promptly report emergencies.
Reassuring residents of its commitment to safety, the Police Command urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and peacefully.
The Command wished the Christian faithful a blessed Christmas and all residents of Sokoto State a safe and prosperous New Year.
