Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has found Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), guilty on all seven terrorism-related counts filed against him by the Federal Government.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Omotosho cited prosecution evidence, including video interviews and broadcasts in which Kanu allegedly made violent threats against Nigeria and its citizens, as the basis for his conviction.

The Judge described Kanu’s call for Chemical Engineering and Chemistry graduates to manufacture Molotov cocktails as a terrorist act, and highlighted his role in inciting violence during the ENDSARS protests.

Justice Omotosho said, “The prosecution witnesses were witnesses of truth. Kanu was unruly and arrogant. He clearly stated that no court can convict him; this is a direct affront to the court.”

Prosecuting counsel Adegboyega Awomolo SAN urged the court to impose the maximum sentence allowed by law, emphasizing Kanu’s use of social media to cause chaos. Awomolo also requested restrictions on Kanu’s access to social media and electronic devices, suggesting that any permitted use should be approved by the National Security Adviser (NSA) pending execution of the sentence.
