The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has received the report of its Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the 2026 Appropriation Bill and is set to pass the budget into law on Tuesday.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, PhD, announced this during plenary after formally receiving the committee’s report. He disclosed that the 2026 budget proposal has been increased by ₦27.6 billion from the initial estimate presented by Governor Abdullahi Sule last month.
Presenting the report, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Hudu A. Hudu, said the upward review was necessitated by prevailing inflationary pressures and rising costs across critical sectors.
According to the committee, the revised 2026 budget now stands at ₦545.1 billion, up from the original ₦517.5 billion proposal.
Capital expenditure was increased from ₦304.7 billion to ₦316.2 billion, while recurrent expenditure rose from ₦212.7 billion to ₦228.7 billion.
The report also highlighted increased allocations to key ministries, including the Ministry of Local Government, which received an additional ₦7 billion, and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, which got an extra ₦3.7 billion.
In a related development, the House passed a bill seeking to harmonise all revenue streams in the state into second reading. The proposed legislation aims to align Nasarawa State’s revenue framework with the new tax reform policy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The bill, sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, received overwhelming support from lawmakers and was unanimously approved for second reading, and is expected to be passed into law soon.
Lawmakers expressed optimism that the timely passage and implementation of the revised 2026 budget would stimulate economic growth and improve the welfare of residents across the state.
