The Nasarawa State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that two pupils of St. Peter’s Academy in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, were abducted, describing the story as entirely false.
According to the command, the children had mistaken a group of local hunters for kidnappers and fled out of fear, causing a false alarm that quickly spread.
Police Commissioner Shetima Jauro Mohammed immediately deployed a joint team of police officers and military personnel to the community. The operatives conducted an extensive search of the area and found no evidence to support claims of an abduction.
The school’s proprietor was also interviewed and reportedly confirmed that no pupil was kidnapped and that the alert was a misunderstanding.
The command said the area remains under close surveillance to forestall any security concerns. It urged residents to disregard the circulating report and cautioned journalists and media platforms to verify information before publication, especially on sensitive issues such as kidnappings.
The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding communities and responding promptly to potential threats.
