Nigeria Exceeds OPEC Quota for Third Consecutive Month Despite July Output Decline

Nigeria has exceeded its Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) crude oil production quota for the third consecutive month, with latest data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) showing an average output of 1.505 million barrels per day (mbpd) in July 2026.

The country also produced 0.17mbpd of condensate during the month, bringing combined crude oil and condensate production to 1.67mbpd.

The NUPRC data showed that daily production peaked at 1.78mbpd during July, while the lowest daily output stood at 1.57mbpd.

Despite meeting the 1.5mbpd OPEC quota, Nigeria’s crude oil production declined by four per cent month-on-month.

The commission attributed the decline to operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo fields, which affected production volumes during the period.

“These disruptions constrained production volumes and contributed significantly to the overall reduction in national crude oil output,” the NUPRC said.

It added that production across most other oil-producing assets remained relatively stable, with operators implementing measures to maintain efficiency and minimise the impact of operational constraints.

The July figures followed a strong performance in June, when Nigeria’s crude oil and condensate production averaged 1,735,398 barrels per day.

According to the NUPRC, crude oil production reached 1.56mbpd in June, while condensate production stood at 0.18mbpd.

The June crude oil output represented 104 per cent of Nigeria’s 1.5mbpd OPEC quota.

In crude oil terms alone, excluding condensates, the 1.56mbpd recorded in June was Nigeria’s highest monthly average since April 2020, representing a 74-month high.
