United States President Donald Trump has announced a pause in planned military strikes targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure, citing progress in ongoing diplomatic engagements between both countries.
The decision was disclosed on Monday, 23 March 2026, following what the US leader described as constructive discussions with Tehran over the past two days.
The United States and Iran “have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East,” Trump wrote in all capital letters on his Truth Social platform.
“Based on the tenor and tone” of the talks, “witch (sic) will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings,” he added.
Trump indicated that the temporary halt in military action is contingent on the outcome of continued negotiations, which are expected to proceed throughout the week as both sides work toward easing tensions in the Middle East.
