The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that it will not rely on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to safeguard its votes in the 2027 general election, insisting that it has put measures in place to protect every vote cast for its candidates.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the declaration on Wednesday in Ilorin while addressing journalists during a sensitisation walk organised to engage residents of the Kwara State capital on the party’s activities and preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abdullahi said the ADC had resolved not to depend solely on the electoral umpire, although it acknowledged that there are officials within INEC who are committed to conducting credible elections.
According to him, elections should not be conducted on the basis of trust alone.
“We know what INEC is capable of. We trusted the commission during the 2023 general election, but the outcome left us disappointed. We will not make the same mistake again by relying solely on trust,” he said.
He added that the party was determined to defend its votes across the country, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the election.
Abdullahi also expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would lose the 2027 presidential election, maintaining that the ADC was prepared to protect its votes.
“We are not going to tell you, but that is what we are going to do if we must win this election,” he stated.
