The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle a consignment of tramadol pills to the United Kingdom after the drugs were discovered concealed inside containers of black soap.
The anti-narcotics agency announced the seizure in a narco-trend update posted on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, on his official X account.
According to the NDLEA, operatives uncovered the concealed drugs during a routine interdiction operation in Lagos, preventing the shipment from leaving the country.
Babafemi used the incident to caution Nigerians against accepting parcels or luggage from other people without first verifying their contents, warning that traffickers often use unsuspecting individuals to transport illicit substances.
“It’s difficult not to continue to warn people that they should avoid accepting any parcel or luggage from anyone,” he wrote.
Explaining the latest seizure, he added:
“Why? Here are pills of tramadol buried in black soap containers to get them to the UK, but the concealment was discovered by #ndlea_nigeria officers in Lagos.”
The NDLEA reiterated its warning that members of the public should exercise caution when handling items on behalf of others, as drug traffickers continue to adopt increasingly sophisticated concealment methods to evade law enforcement agencies.
