The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will close today, Sunday, July 26, urging eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the final opportunity to register or update their voter information.
In a post on X on Sunday, the electoral body stressed that participation in the exercise is essential for citizens who intend to vote in the 2027 general elections.
“Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” the commission stated.
“Register to vote or update your voter information before the close of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) today, Sunday, 26 July 2026.”
INEC advised Nigerians who have not yet registered to complete the process through its CVR portal or visit any of its state and local government offices before the registration window closes.
The commission noted that the exercise also covers:
•New voter registration
•Transfer of voter registration
•Correction of personal information
•Replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs)
The conclusion of the exercise marks the end of a nationwide voter registration programme conducted in multiple phases over the past year.
The first phase began in August 2025 with online pre-registration, followed by physical registration on August 25. By December 2025, INEC had recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations, including 1,503,832 online registrations and 1,068,222 completed through in-person enrolment.
The second phase ran from January 5 to April 17, 2026, during which the commission recorded 3,748,704 completed registrations nationwide.
INEC later commenced a third phase of the exercise in May 2026 and subsequently extended the deadline by two weeks in July to allow more eligible Nigerians to participate.
With the registration period ending today, the commission urged all eligible citizens who have yet to register or update their details to do so before the deadline, emphasising that voter registration is a prerequisite for participation in the 2027 general elections.
