The Sokoto State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral social media claim alleging that a Superintendent of Police was seen escorting a Hisbah Commander, describing the narrative as misleading and taken out of context.
In an official rejoinder issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Rufa’i, the Command clarified that the photograph currently circulating online is an old image that has been deliberately misrepresented.
According to the statement, the individual seen in Hisbah attire in the photograph is not a Hisbah Commander but the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, who was attending the inauguration of the Hisbah Board and the commissioning of its Secretariat on November 22, 2024.
The Command further explained that the police officer visible in the image was serving as the Governor’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC) at the time and was performing his official duty of providing close protection.
“Under no circumstance did any Police officer ‘escort’ a Hisbah Commander as falsely alleged. The original context of the image has been deliberately distorted to suit a false narrative,” the statement noted.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the misleading caption accompanying the image and to avoid sharing unverified information capable of causing confusion.
It also warned individuals spreading the content to desist, reiterating that the Nigeria Police Force remains a professional and apolitical institution committed to maintaining law and order.
