Voting has been disrupted in Ejigbo, Osun State, following an outbreak of violence at a polling area during the ongoing governorship election.
The incident reportedly started after a youth discovered materials allegedly linked to vote-buying and said to belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The youth reportedly said he and others seized the materials because they could not stand by and watch what they considered an illegal activity take place.
The situation later escalated when individuals allegedly associated with the materials arrived at the scene and reportedly attempted to take the youth away.
The development heightened tension in the area, forcing voters, residents and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to flee for safety.
Video footage from the scene showed people running in different directions, while motorcycles and vehicles moved through the area as residents attempted to escape the unfolding chaos.
Voting was consequently disrupted in the affected area as the situation became tense.
It remains unclear whether anyone was injured in the incident.
The development comes amid heightened tension across Osun State as voters cast their ballots in the governorship election, with 15 candidates contesting for the governorship seat.
