Nigerian reality TV star and entrepreneur Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Simply Tacha, has officially entered the Guinness World Records for achieving the most cosmetic makeovers in 24 hours.
According to a statement published on the Guinness World Records (GWR) website, Tacha earned two record titles, for performing 82 makeovers in eight hours and 144 makeovers in 24 hours, surpassing the previous record held by Sierra Leone’s Mary Yongai by more than 30 people.
The 29-year-old, widely recognised for her appearances on Big Brother Naija and MTV’s The Challenge, completed the record-breaking feat in Lagos on October 11, 2024. Despite facing a nine-hour rainstorm and multiple power outages, she persevered, completing the challenge with the help of her team and supporters.
“It wasn’t just about makeup anymore; it was about proving that nothing could stop us,” Tacha said in an interview with Guinness World Records.
“Every face reminded me why I started, to show that Nigerian women can achieve anything they put their minds to.”
Each of the 144 makeovers featured a full cosmetic transformation, including foundation, concealer, blush, eyeshadow, mascara, lip gloss, and eyebrow styling. The event, held behind a transparent glass wall, drew large crowds of cheering fans and onlookers.
Tacha described the experience as emotional, saying she was overwhelmed with joy when she received official confirmation of her world record status.
“This record isn’t just mine. It belongs to every girl child who has ever dared to start over, every creative who has ever been doubted, and every dreamer who still believes that greatness can come from anywhere,” she said.
Tacha expressed gratitude to her project manager, Seun Oluyemi Anthony (popularly known as Otunba), and her assistants, noting their role in helping her recruit participants and keep the event running despite setbacks.
Guinness World Records hailed her determination and creativity, describing her as an inspiration to women and creatives across Africa.
