Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate demolition of an illegal shanty settlement near Karmajiji in Abuja’s Kukwaba District, citing growing security threats and intelligence linking the location to criminal activities.

The directive was issued following a meeting of the FCT Security Committee, after which Wike personally led a team of security operatives on an inspection of the site.

According to intelligence reports, suspects involved in attacks across parts of the nation’s capital frequently retreated to the informal settlement to evade detection.

Inspecting the area alongside security chiefs, the minister described the unmapped community as a significant threat to public safety that the FCT Administration would not tolerate.

To implement the directive, Wike ordered the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, to work with the Department of Development Control to ensure the immediate clearance of the area.
