The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has continued to decline in parts of Nigeria over the past three weeks, bringing some relief to households.
A market survey by Daily Post showed that the price of cooking gas in Abuja and its environs has dropped to as low as ₦1,300 per kilogram, down from ₦1,450, depending on the location.
Major retail outlets have also adjusted their prices. Ranoil now sells LPG at ₦1,350 per kilogram, Shafa dispenses it at ₦1,300 per kilogram, while AP Ardova sells at ₦1,400 per kilogram, compared with the previous range of ₦1,450 to ₦1,500 per kilogram.
At the wholesale level, depot owners are now selling LPG for between ₦997 and ₦1,030 per kilogram, down from as high as ₦1,100 per kilogram.
Similarly, many LPG retailers in Dawaki, Kubwa, Gwarimpa and Lugbe have reduced their prices to around ₦1,500 per kilogram, compared with approximately ₦1,700 per kilogram in recent weeks.
The decline in prices comes amid a sharp increase in Liquefied Petroleum Gas imports into Nigeria.
According to data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for June, LPG imports surged by 1,400 per cent to 1.5 kilotonnes per day in June 2026, contributing to improved supply and lower market prices.
