The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to modern, intelligence-led border management as it opened a five-day National Training Seminar on World Customs Organisation (WCO) intelligence tools in Abuja.
Declaring the event open on behalf of the Comptroller-General, Adewale Adeniyi, the Deputy Comptroller-General of Strategic Research and Policy, Dera Nnadi, said intelligence is now the cornerstone of national security amid evolving threats such as illicit trade and terrorism financing.
He noted that the NCS is enhancing collaboration with the WCO and Regional Intelligence Liaison Offices (RILO) to strengthen risk analysis, profiling, and data-driven enforcement through platforms like the Customs Enforcement Network (CEN) and the SAFE Framework of Standards.
RILO West Africa Head, Amadou Cissé, commended Adeniyi’s leadership and his recent election as President of the WCO Council, describing it as a testament to Nigeria’s growing influence in global customs administration.
Participants are undergoing intensive sessions on intelligence sharing, data analytics, and regional risk management to bolster cross-border crime prevention.
