President Bola Tinubu has approved fresh appointments across major education agencies, including the National Examinations Council and the National Board for Technical Education.
The appointments were disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as part of efforts to strengthen institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education.
Tinubu appointed Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while retaining the Registrar, Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi.
He also named Babatunde Salako as Chairman of NBTE, while Idris Bugaje was earlier reappointed for a second and final five-year term as Executive Secretary.
In the polytechnic sector, the president approved the appointment of Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a single five-year term, succeeding Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026.
Until his appointment, Binfa served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and had previously lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
Tinubu also renewed the tenure of Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term.
Anunobi, first appointed in September 2021, has overseen reforms aimed at modernising the institution, including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
The statement noted that Adelabu brings extensive experience in educational administration, while Salako is a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research.
It added that Anunobi’s reappointment is expected to ensure continuity in reforms and support the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
