The African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by its factional national chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, has concluded the screening of aspirants ahead of its upcoming primary elections across Nigeria.
The party disclosed that 1,657 aspirants were cleared to participate in the primaries, while 212 others were disqualified for failing to meet the required conditions.
According to the ADC, the screening exercise was conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
The party stated that screening committees were established in all states to ensure a transparent and orderly process.
It explained that a total of 1,869 aspirants participated in the screening exercise, but only candidates who satisfied the stipulated requirements were cleared to proceed to the primaries.
“Out of the 980 aspirants who participated in the screening exercise for State House of Assembly positions, 155 were disqualified and deemed ineligible to proceed to the primary election,” the party said.
The ADC added that 50 aspirants for the House of Representatives failed to meet the screening requirements, while seven Senate aspirants were also unsuccessful in the exercise.
According to the party, the reasons for disqualification included inconsistencies in dates of birth and graduation years, lack of valid party membership cards, and failure to comply with electoral guidelines.
