Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has passed away in Cairo, Egypt, at an old age following a long illness.
Her grandson announced the death on Friday via Facebook, saying, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai who passed away a few hours ago.”
The family source confirmed that Hajiya Umma had been living in Cairo with her son since he left office in 2023. She is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The grandson prayed for her soul, adding, “We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the soul of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers. Thank you.”
Her death comes as Nasir El-Rufai faces ongoing legal proceedings while in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, following his re-arrest after initial detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
