The Kebbi State Police Command says police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilante groups have been deployed for a coordinated search-and-rescue operation following the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
According to the Command, the incident occurred on November 17, 2025, at about 4:00 a.m. when armed bandits carrying sophisticated weapons attacked the school while shooting sporadically. Police personnel already stationed at the school engaged the attackers in a gunfight, but the assailants had reportedly scaled the school fence before abducting 25 students from their hostel and fleeing to an unknown location.
During the attack, one person identified as Hassan Makuku was shot dead, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained an injury to his right hand.
The Police Command confirmed that additional tactical units, alongside military operatives and vigilantes, have since been deployed to the area. The teams are currently combing suspected escape routes and nearby forests in an effort to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. He also urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and continue supporting ongoing security operations aimed at restoring peace and stability.
The statement was issued by CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, Police Public Relations Officer for the Commissioner of Police, on November 17, 2025.
