Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been conferred with the traditional title of Jigon Bauchi by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu.
The title was bestowed on Jonathan during a ceremony at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi metropolis as part of his two-day visit to the state.
The Emir described the former president as a good leader and commended his contributions to peace, democracy and national unity in Nigeria.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who led government officials and other dignitaries to the palace, thanked the Bauchi Emirate for honouring Jonathan.
The governor said the conferment recognised Jonathan’s contributions to the development of democracy and national unity, adding that his leadership and service to the country remained worthy of recognition.
Responding, Jonathan expressed appreciation to the Emir and people of Bauchi State for the honour.
He pledged to respect the laws, traditions and values of the Bauchi Emirate and uphold the dignity attached to the Jigon Bauchi title.
Jonathan said the honour was deeply appreciated and would further strengthen his commitment to promoting peace, unity and democratic development in Nigeria.
