Supporters and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from across the 30 local government areas of Osun State have gathered in large numbers in Osogbo ahead of the party’s mega campaign rally on Thursday.
The rally had yet to officially commence as of the time of filing this report, but the venue was already filled with party supporters who turned out to demonstrate their support for the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of Saturday’s election.
Oyebamiji is expected to arrive at the venue shortly to join other party leaders and supporters for the campaign event.
There has also been increased vehicular movement around the Ogooluwa axis of Osogbo as supporters make their way to the rally venue.
The influx has caused traffic congestion in parts of the area, with motorists experiencing delays along the axis.
The APC mega rally is one of the party’s final major campaign activities ahead of the Osun governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15.
Several senior APC figures have already arrived in Osogbo for the rally, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, have also arrived for the event.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had set August 13 as the deadline for campaigns after shifting the election date from August 8 to August 15.
The APC leadership is using the final hours of the campaign to consolidate support for Oyebamiji, who emerged as the party’s candidate at its governorship primary held in Osogbo.
