Justice Faruku Bunza, the High Court judge abducted in Kebbi State one week ago, has regained his freedom and returned home safely.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed his release in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, saying the judge’s freedom had also been confirmed by his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.
According to the police, although the kidnappers demanded a ransom, the command maintained its policy against ransom payments.
The police said security agencies have intensified investigations to identify and arrest those responsible for the abduction.
The command appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could assist the ongoing investigation, assuring that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
It also expressed appreciation to residents and partner security agencies for their support and cooperation throughout the period of the judge’s captivity.
A family member confirmed the development, saying Justice Bunza returned home a few hours before the announcement.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits,” the relative said.
The family also thanked the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies and residents of the state for their prayers, support and solidarity during the ordeal.
“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy. Your concern and support gave us strength, and we are grateful for your solidarity,” the family member added.
