The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed he is the first governor in Nigeria’s history to serve for eight years without owning a personal house.

Aregbesola, who governed Osun State from 2010 to 2018 before serving as Minister of Interior, made the assertion while addressing supporters in a video that surfaced online on Thursday.

According to the former governor, he lived in a friend’s house throughout his eight-year tenure in office.

“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” he said.

He challenged anyone disputing the claim to provide evidence that he owns a house.

“I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as a governor in my father’s land. Whoever says that what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own.”

Aregbesola served as governor of Osun State between 2010 and 2018 before his appointment as Minister of Interior under the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

During his tenure, his administration implemented policies aimed at tackling poverty, unemployment and hunger, while promoting education, healthcare, peace and community development.
