The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official records to restore David Mark as National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside other members of the party’s National Working Committee.
A review of the commission’s website shows the revised leadership structure, with Rauf Aregbesola listed as National Secretary. Other reinstated officials include Mani Ahmad as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.
INEC had earlier removed the names of the officials in April following a directive from the Court of Appeal, a move that sparked protests from the Mark-led faction and drew criticism from opposition groups.
The dispute arose from a prolonged legal battle over the legitimacy of the party’s leadership.
However, in a significant development, the Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified the earlier ruling of the appellate court, holding that the order to maintain the status quo ante bellum could not stand after the conclusion of the relevant proceedings.
The apex court upheld the appeal filed by the Mark-led faction and directed that the substantive suit instituted by aggrieved party member Nafiu Bala Gombe at the Federal High Court be heard expeditiously and determined on its merits.
The Mark-led group has described the reinstatement as a victory for due process and internal party stability.
Despite the development, the core suit challenging the legitimacy of the ADC leadership remains pending before the Federal High Court.
