The Sokoto State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property following a string of operational successes recorded across the state in recent weeks.
Speaking during a press briefing, the Commissioner of Police said the engagement was aimed at promoting transparency, strengthening public trust, and enhancing collaboration between law enforcement and communities.
He noted that the Command remains focused on its constitutional mandate of crime prevention, detection, and maintenance of law and order, adding that internal reforms have been intensified in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, particularly in the areas of discipline, professionalism, and operational efficiency.
According to the police chief, the Command has achieved notable progress in tackling violent crimes through strengthened synergy with other security agencies, local vigilante groups, and community stakeholders.
Bandits Repelled in Sabon-Birni
Police operatives, in a joint operation with other security forces, successfully repelled an attack by armed bandits in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area on April 8, 2026.
The assailants had targeted Kwarengamba and Gayya da Kwari villages near the Niger Republic border. However, a coordinated response by security personnel forced them to retreat with injuries.
A sack containing 167 rounds of live ammunition was recovered at the scene, having been abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
Three Suspects Arrested, Weapons Recovered
In a separate operation on April 15, 2026, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out raids on criminal hideouts across Tambuwal, Kware, and Goronyo Local Government Areas.
Three suspects—Isiya Yusuf, Dankulu Sani, and Yushau Abubakar—were arrested during the operation.
Items recovered include seven locally fabricated Dane guns, an AK-47 magazine, a military uniform, cutlasses, and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

Police authorities confirmed that the suspects have since been charged to court.
Alleged Terrorism Informant Arrested
Operatives also arrested a suspected bandit informant and terrorism financier, Aminu Mai Roba, along the Ruwa Wuri–Tangaza Road on April 17, 2026.
The suspect was reportedly intercepted while transporting four cows and allegedly confessed during interrogation that the livestock were supplied by a terrorist group for sale, with proceeds to be remitted to the group.
The recovered animals have been documented as exhibits, while investigations continue.
Reaffirming the Command’s resolve, the Commissioner of Police assured residents that security agencies remain proactive and strategically positioned to tackle all forms of criminality across the state.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information, assuring that such reports would be treated with confidentiality.
“The support of the public remains vital in our collective effort to sustain peace and security,” he said.
The Command added that it will continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, community policing initiatives, and operational strategies to ensure that criminal elements are denied safe haven in the state.
