Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have arrested a suspect allegedly in possession of a large cache of live ammunition as part of efforts to curb criminal activities and restore normalcy in the state.
The arrest was made on March 10, 2026, at about 7:50 p.m. during a routine patrol along the Gusau–Funtua Federal Road at the Yankara checkpoint.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Mannir Adam, a 25-year-old resident of Yankuzo Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, was riding a red Boxer motorcycle when he was intercepted by officers acting on credible intelligence.
A thorough search conducted by the patrol team led to the recovery of 800 rounds of AK-47 7.62mm live ammunition concealed inside the motorcycle’s fuel tank.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was travelling from Unguwar Bawa in Saminaka Local Government Area of Kaduna State and was heading to Kucheri Village in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State.
The suspect and the recovered ammunition were taken into custody and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending other members of the suspected criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to help safeguard lives and property.
