The All Progressives Congress (APC) has added another high-profile figure as Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas officially registered as a member of the ruling party.
Governor Kefas, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received his membership card from his ward chairman at Hospital Ward in Wukari Local Government Area. He announced that a new date for his official defection into the APC will be announced soon.
At the registration event, attended by party executives, Governor Kefas assured members of his commitment to transforming the state and delivering inclusive governance that ensures more dividends of democracy.
The governor had previously postponed his planned defection, scheduled for 19 November, following the abduction of schoolchildren in Kebbi State.
Kefas’ move adds to a string of high-profile exits from the PDP in recent months, deepening the crisis within the main opposition party. In November, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri left the PDP for the APC after weeks of speculation, signalling a major political shift in the South-South.
Earlier in the year, similar defections were made by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, all of whom joined the APC.
