The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has commissioned a N717,374,213.75 Faculty of Social Sciences Lecture Theatre and Office Complex at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK).

The project was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Chairman of TETFund’s Board of Trustees, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, at the university’s main campus in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

The newly completed facility includes:
Four 200-seater lecture theatres

22 fully furnished en-suite offices

12 public conveniences

Masari said the project was executed under the 2020/2021 merged annual intervention, noting that it aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving education infrastructure nationwide.

He commended NSUK for its transparency and accountability in managing TETFund projects, describing it as one of TETFund’s most responsible beneficiaries. According to him, this is the third project commissioning at the university in less than three years.

“The institution has consistently ensured judicious use of funds with visible results,” Masari stated. “This new complex will greatly enhance teaching and learning by providing a conducive academic environment.”

Masari revealed that TETFund recorded 71% completion of infrastructure projects across beneficiary institutions between January and September 2025. He also disclosed that NSUK has received over N12.7 billion in TETFund interventions since 2003, with about 80% of the funds already accessed and utilised.

He encouraged the university to maintain the new facility and announced that TETFund has temporarily suspended foreign academic training due to high exchange rates and cases of abscondment, shifting focus to strategic local capacity-building programmes.

Representing TETFund Executive Secretary Arc. Sonny Echono, the Fund’s Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Babatunde Olajide, said the project demonstrated TETFund’s commitment to strengthening the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria.

In her remarks, NSUK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, described the commissioning as a milestone in the university’s development trajectory. She lauded TETFund’s contributions, saying its interventions have expanded access to education and improved staff productivity.

The VC also revealed that NSUK was recently ranked Number One in Nigeria for Quality Education in the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (SDG 4 category). She appealed for further support from TETFund, especially for solar power projects and more academic buildings.

Representing Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, praised TETFund’s consistent investments in education and assured that the state government would continue to support university development.
