Former U.S. President, Joe Biden is currently undergoing radiation and hormone therapy for prostate cancer, his spokesperson confirmed on Saturday.
“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” the spokesperson said.
The 82-year-old former president was diagnosed in May with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones, after experiencing urinary symptoms and the discovery of a prostate nodule.
At the time, Biden shared his gratitude and resilience in a heartfelt message on X, saying, “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”
Biden’s health has been under intense public scrutiny following revelations from a new book detailing his declining condition during his campaign for a second presidential term against Donald Trump.
In July 2024, Biden dropped out of the race after a poor debate performance and later endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who eventually lost to Trump in the election.
According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, especially in the elderly — with about 80% of men over 80 showing some cancerous cells in the prostate gland. Although it is highly treatable if detected early, it remains the second leading cause of cancer death among men.
Hormone therapy, while often effective in shrinking tumors and slowing cancer growth, does not cure the disease.
