Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed optimism about global peace efforts and highlighted the improving relationship between himself and former U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a Facebook post, Zelensky wrote, “If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well — including the Russian war.”
Relations between the two leaders have improved significantly since February, when they clashed during a widely publicized meeting at the White House. Trump has since described Zelensky as a “nice guy” and reaffirmed his support for Ukraine amid its ongoing battle against Russia’s invasion, which began in 2022.
The pair also held a follow-up meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September, signaling a further thaw in their diplomatic ties.
