The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with motorcycle theft and the unlawful possession of stolen property following a tip-off from a resident in the Gidan Igwai area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, operatives of the Strike Force Unit carried out the operation on May 23, 2026, after receiving intelligence on suspected criminal activities in the area.
The police said officers conducted coordinated raids across Kano Road, Runjim Sambo, Gidan Dare and Gidan Man Ada areas, leading to the arrest of one Yahuza Abubakar from Darna Village in Wamakko Local Government Area.
During interrogation, Abubakar reportedly confessed to stealing a red Kasea motorcycle which he later sold to an accomplice.
Further investigation led officers to Alhaji Samaila Aliyu in the Gidan Igwai area, who was arrested for allegedly receiving the stolen motorcycle.
Police said an ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle was also recovered from Aliyu during the operation.
According to the command, Aliyu later confessed to selling the stolen red Kasea motorcycle to Ahmed Abdullahi of the Gawon Nama area.
The red Kasea motorcycle was subsequently recovered from Abdullahi, who was also taken into custody.
Items recovered during the operation included one red Kasea motorcycle, one ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle and two master keys believed to have been used in carrying out the thefts.
The police said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are connected to other motorcycle theft cases within the state.
The command added that all three suspects remain in custody and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
