The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against travelling abroad without valid passports, visas and other required immigration documents, stressing that such actions violate immigration laws and expose citizens to serious dangers.
The warning was issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service in a public notice released on Monday through its spokesperson, DCI AS Akinlabi.
According to the agency, irregular migration continues to place many Nigerians at risk of exploitation, human trafficking and forced labour.
The service stressed that all international travel must follow approved immigration procedures and pass through recognised border points, warning that bypassing official channels remains unlawful.
The NIS stated that criminal groups are increasingly deceiving Nigerians, particularly young people, with false promises of jobs, education and better opportunities abroad.
According to the statement, many victims of such schemes eventually find themselves trapped in exploitative conditions after leaving the country through illegal arrangements.
“These schemes often result in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation,” the statement said.
The Immigration Service advised Nigerians to verify all travel and recruitment offers through official channels and avoid dealing with unregistered agents or individuals promoting irregular migration.
The agency also urged members of the public to report suspicious activities linked to illegal migration to security agencies and nearby immigration offices.
