Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said the state can no longer rely solely on the national grid for electricity supply, noting that his administration is exploring alternative energy sources to support its industrialisation agenda.

Otti made the statement on Wednesday while receiving the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Jennifer Adighije, in Abia State.

The governor stressed that reliable electricity is central to the economic development of key commercial hubs such as Umuahia and Aba, adding that the state is open to partnerships that can guarantee stable power supply.

According to him, what matters most to Abia State is consistent electricity delivery, whether through the national grid or independent power solutions.

In her response, Adighije disclosed that the 450-megawatt Alaoji Power Plant has been restored after years of inactivity.

She said the plant is now expected to contribute about 375 megawatts of electricity into the national grid.

Adighije also assured the state government of improved power supply and pledged continued collaboration to support Abia’s industrialisation drive through enhanced generation and distribution capacity.
