The Kwankwasiyya Movement has announced that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to a statement issued by the movement, Kwankwaso is scheduled to officially register with the ADC on 30 March 2026 at his residence in Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Kano.
The announcement also directed members of the movement across the country to immediately begin registration with the ADC at ward, local government and state levels.
The spokesperson of the movement, Habibu Sale Mohammed, said the decision reflects a strategic commitment to strengthening democratic values and promoting inclusive governance.
“We have always been committed to the betterment of our state and the nation at large,” he said. “This strategic decision is aimed at strengthening democratic principles and promoting inclusive leadership that genuinely reflects the will and aspirations of the people.”
He added that the move aligns with the group’s long-standing emphasis on protecting democracy and ensuring that governance reflects the interests of citizens.
“Democracy must be protected, and the will of the people must always be respected,” he noted.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement, known for its strong support base particularly in Kano State, has been closely associated with Kwankwaso’s political influence over the years.
Members were further encouraged to actively participate in party activities and contribute to the growth and development of the ADC at all levels.
While the broader political implications of the development are still unfolding, analysts suggest the move could significantly reshape alliances ahead of future elections.
Reaffirming the group’s unity, Mohammed stated that the movement remains committed to advancing policies that prioritise the welfare of Nigerians.
“We remain resolute and united in our mission to create a better Nigeria. This is just the beginning of a new chapter in our political journey,” he said.
