The Nasarawa State Police Command has dismantled a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in Gidan Akuya Village within Keana Local Government Area of the state, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of weapons.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the State Intelligence Department following credible intelligence on the activities of criminal elements operating in the area.
During the raid on the hideout located in Gidan Akuya, police operatives reportedly encountered resistance as members of the gang attempted to escape upon sighting security personnel. However, a swift pursuit by the officers led to the arrest of a 43-year-old suspect identified as Jibril Yunusa.
A search of the location resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine and a locally fabricated rifle believed to have been used by the criminal group.
Police authorities said the suspect confessed during interrogation to involvement in several kidnapping operations along the Keana and Awe axis of the state. His confession is expected to assist investigators in tracking down other members of the gang and uncovering further criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed security operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining members of the group who escaped during the operation.
He also commended the officers for their professionalism and swift response, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across communities in Nasarawa State.
The police assured residents that intelligence-driven operations will continue as part of broader efforts to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the state.
