Arsenal FC have opened discussions with midfielder Declan Rice over a new long-term contract as the Premier League leaders aim to secure one of their most influential players for the future.

Rice, 27, joined Arsenal from West Ham United in 2023 for a reported £105 million and has since developed into a central figure in the team’s midfield.

The England international has made 102 Premier League appearances for the club and has earned 72 caps for England national football team.

According to reports, Rice’s current contract still has two years remaining, with the option of an additional 12-month extension. However, Arsenal are keen to tie him down to a longer deal and are prepared to offer a salary increase that would make him one of the club’s highest-paid players.

For comparison, teammate Bukayo Saka recently signed a four-and-a-half-year contract worth at least £300,000 per week, while Rice is currently believed to earn about £240,000 weekly.

The move is part of Arsenal’s broader strategy to secure the long-term futures of their key players.

Over the past year, the club has extended contracts for several stars including William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Myles Lewis‑Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri.

The club is also currently in talks with defender Jurriën Timber over a new contract.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper David Raya and forward Leandro Trossard have recently received improved contracts, although their deals were not extended in duration.

Arsenal currently lead the Premier League table by seven points ahead of defending champions Manchester City, who still have a game in hand.

The Gunners will host Everton FC on Saturday, while Manchester City travel to face West Ham United as the title race continues.

Arsenal are chasing their first league title since 2004, when the club won the trophy under legendary manager Arsène Wenger.
