Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has presented Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to the chairmen of the 20 local government areas in the state as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots governance.
The governor said the gesture was in fulfilment of his earlier pledge and aimed at enhancing effective administration and service delivery at the local government level.
The presentation, which took place in Abeokuta, was carried out through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat. Governor Abiodun commended the local government chairmen for their commitment to delivering dividends of democracy at the grassroots, assuring them of the state government’s continued collaboration to improve the welfare and quality of life of residents.
Abiodun noted that empowering local government leaders with necessary tools would enhance their ability to meet the needs of rural communities and ensure inclusive development across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ogun State chapter, Afolasade Adeyemo, described the initiative as timely and commendable. She expressed appreciation to the governor for fulfilling his promise, noting that the vehicles would significantly improve their operational capacity.
Adeyemo, who is also the Chairman of Odeda Local Government Area, praised Governor Abiodun’s achievements in key sectors such as education, housing, healthcare, and road infrastructure. She said the administration’s ISEYA development agenda has positioned Ogun State on a positive trajectory.
“The vehicles will enhance our capacity to reach rural communities and effectively address the aspirations and needs of the people at the grassroots,” she said.
